Such a legendary game in so many ways, even for simple things like nicking a car!

Unreal to think that and Final Fantasy X are already 10 years old, and Im still regularly playing games older than that.

Here is something to make you feel old -

When I was 6 I went on holiday to Majorca. During that holiday I watched a lot of the World Cup USA 94. During a game I recall Brazil scoring and Bebeto doing the baby rocking celebration that everyone now knows.

....That very same baby has now signed for Flamenco in Brazil. How old do you feel now?!

This was also some feckin challenge...

THE DODO!!!!!!!! It was legendary for all the wrong reasons lol. I must say I do feel old now, as I remember quite a bit of USA94!

GTA3 is being re-released on the 10th anniversary - on ios and mobile devices Rolling Eyes Not sure how it's gonna work with touch controls tbh. Was hoping for an HD re-release or something. Oh well.

First impression is, looking at that V its San Andreas. Which means Ill not be touching it unless some serious changes are made. Got 4 but not played it that much, not overly keen on it tbh.

If they put the effort into it, it should be class - in theory - but the GTAs after VC (which is still one of the greatest games of all time) there is a lot of empty/dead space on maps, and places you never have a reason to go to, along with big building graphics that only serve as a means of expanding the city more.

VC had the perfect sized map, one an island or two bigger would suffice, but I recall SA being so big most of it was wasted. Not sure what to make of 4 yet, still not that into the game, and will give it a go once I complete FF13.

A lot of people are arguing that this V means back to London, but looks too rapper-like to be anything other than SA.

remember hearing months ago that they were launching piss take websites aimed at LA based companies. Scientology will probably be ripped to bits Razz

Enjoyed the scale on SA tbh, but alot of the countryside was a bit meaningless and largely despised. be interesting to see how they approach it this time. 4 is pretty spot on as a NYC replica. I don't think they could recreate the city any more accurately without recreating it street by street

I wouldn't mind if they took it back to SA but I would so much rather visit Vice City again - not only one of the best GTAs but one of the best games ever (Uncharted gives it a bit of competition though). Anyhoo, there's a good few things they need to sort out if they do go this direction...

Scale the map down - I don't think they need to completely overhaul it but they need to get rid of some of the dead space that was mentioned and just make sure that there is plenty to see/do when travelling between towns/islands. Case in point - as good as Oblivion is (and I know there's a fast travel option), there was a LOT of dead space in it when travelling. When Bethesda made Fallout 3, (same company, same engine, same general concept as Oblivion) they deliberately made the map smaller than Oblivion's and populated it more - one of the reasons I believe it's a better game.

Focus on one American city instead of a state - most publications are speculating that GTA V won't go outside the US, and I hope they're right. Firstly Liberty City in GTA3 and Vice City were awesome maps because they were based on one city split into a couple islands. Secondly, much of the atmosphere and setting of the games work because it completely takes the mickey and pokes fun of American pop culture. I'm thinking Los Angeles or even 1970s San Francisco?

Ditch the GTA 4 engine - GTA 4 as a standalone game is alright. As a GTA game, it sucks. Although people praise it for realistically portraying New York and the gameplay being more realistic, they completely miss the point. GTA is about over the top mayhem and fun - something GTA4 completely lacks. I never bothered finishing it because I got so bored/frustrated - all the missions follow the exact same structure - go to a certain location/ follow someone> kill enemies >escape. There's no variety, there's no fun, and the bank heist mission...they could have done so much more with it. As for contacting people on the mobile, socialising etc, it basically needs thrown out the window - go back to simple gunplay/carjacking/ helicopters/ tanks/ mayhem

Interesting characters and story - something completely missing in GTA4

Destruction? - aka Battlefield/Just Cause/ Mercenaries-style? Could be hard to pull off though especially having a whole city

Either way, I'll probs still buy GTA V regardless, but hopefully it's more like GTA VC than GTA 4

Completely agree with everything Dave said.

Which reminds me, another thing I wasnt keen on in SA/4 was the social side of things - ringing people and having gfs. I dont bother with this in real life, why would I in a game!? Its a decent idea, but it only acts as a side quest and drags on, if it actually affected the outcome of hte game, that would be worthwhile.

And I want things like 100 hidden packages back, with a new toy every 10 you get, in VC it was totally worth it.

In SA...it was not.

Rewards in SA were crap, tanks were not as fun as they were in VC. In VC it was just all out retarded mayhem in a comic book style fashion - the bad graphics and many glitches actually gave it much more character, lost that in SA, and 4 seems too serious. (that said, there were FAR to many jokes in SA)

Everything seems to suggest San Andreas. I guess the trailer will be like the GTA 4 initial trailer. Will probably just find out the city, main character's name, and him talking for about a minute, that's it.

If it turns out it's in Vice City I will actually cream myself though.

So San Andreas it is! Looks amazing, graphics are exceptional for a GTA game. IGN also seem to believe the main character is Tommy Vercetti! It does sound like him, albeit a bit older. And you don't actually see him in the trailer (I think), so who knows?

Dave I read your mass Vice City post before I watched the trailer or saw what time you posted that at, AND SHAT MYSELF.

Thanks to you Im now disappointed in the trailer Razz

Gota be honest, not too keen on the west coast, SA was a huge let down, but I like the fact this might be an exmafioso going into retirement or something.

As for Vercetti - It might and might not be, I know for a fact Ray Liotta said he was never, ever do a video game again because it was so much work, but might just have someone slightly similar doing it instead.

Dave you have no idea how excited I got when I saw that mass VC post without noticing the time you wrote it at.... feck sake like!!

for the first 10 seconds or so i was convinced they had duped everyone and gone to VC,

looks pretty good though, countryside is back in it :p

looks like its solely based around LA tho. none of the San francisco/ vegas stuff. altho fighter jets are back Very Happy

*edit*

upon second viewing.... and reading an article which dissects it.... multiple characters? The guy talked sounds white.... but then the trailer has a couple of walking shots of a CJ type. The guy walking with the nice green and orange jumper/ running towards camera away from the helicopter towards the end.

Rockstar confirmed it's the whole of San Andreas, but only showed LA in the trailer. I think the original San Andreas trailer did the same.

No release date is intriguing. Most seem to speculate it won't be until this time next year.

Strange thing is though with the lack of release date, going by whats in that trailer, a good bit of the game/map seems complete already.

Multiple characters could happen - anyone play the other versions of gta3 or vice city? the story from Lance Vance's brother etc?

I played the first 5 minutes of Vice City Stories then couldn't be arsed.

Thoughts on the trailer...

I'm happy enough that it's San Andreas. The original was a good game that I really enjoyed - nowhere near as much as Vice City - but was still a fun game. I liked the atmosphere of it and enjoyed exploring. As well as all the craziness (which I know some people thought was too much). Rockstar know the issues that many gamers had with the original SA and I'm sure they'll address them to make sure there's a lot less dead space in this along with hopefully less stupid RPG-esque elements.

I'm near sure that's Vercetti narrating it (yes it's not Ray Liotta but damn he sounds similar). So the story will focus on him attempting to settle down to life in Los Santos only for his past to catch up with him and for him to clear his name. You heard it here first. Also it looks like it's a modern day setting which leaves it completely open to tonnes of characters from previous GTA games showing up. Being the whole state of San Andreas, there's going to be a lot of missions and storylines to fill so I reckon plenty of familiar faces will show up ftw.

The realism of it worries me. If the gameplay or world is anything like GTA4 then I'm going to be sorely disappointed. The gameplay wasn't fun and GTA4's Liberty City wasn't very interesting to explore. Although GTAV seems to have created a very vibrant world with a lot going on.

Fighter jets. WIN.

Fingers crossed.
